The foundation of all art is drawing. If you have never drawn before of just want to sharpen your skills, this class can help. One of the main focuses will be on training the eye how to see. We will learn perspective, balance, form, and contrast as it all relates to composition. We will learn how to take a drawing from sketch to finished art work with just a pencil. Whether you are a beginner or advanced you should bring quality photos to work from.

The Wonderful World Of Scratchboard, Sheryl Unwin

Scratchboard is a fine art form that uses a surface covered with white clay and then a layer of black India ink. In class we will explore the different tools to remove the black ink to bring your image come to life. The student may choose to keep their boards black and white or proceed to colorize them. In class we will explore the different mediums used to colorize your scratchboards.

Professional quality colored pencils are versatile and easy to master, whether you use regular colored pencils or water-soluble ones. They’re great for realistic work, miniatures and even bold abstracts. Learn techniques for beautiful results with both types of pencils used together or separately. Projects will be available for step by step instruction or bring your own subject matter. If you don’t have your own pencils, assorted sets of both types will be available for use in class. Some paper and other tools are also provided.

If you are a beginning drawing student, this class will be perfect for you! This class, a second in my beginner series, will highlight how to draw landscapes. Students will learn techniques to draw natural scenery, wild-life, as well as man-made features. You can choose the type of landscape you wish to draw; desert, mountain, coastal, jungle or the woodlands! Feel free to bring in photographs or pictures to use as reference.

Drawing, From Sticks To Form, Helen Solomon

This class is in 4 sections. Working from magazines, you will build your skills, from S1 to S4.
S1: In this session, the focus is on the details of each part of the face: eyes, mouth, nose. The first fundamental to acquire is proportion, and then we’re going to practice the basic male, female proportions as we become familiar with the human form from head to toe, we will also learn all about skin tone.
S2: The stick figure is a universally recognizable symbol, likely one of the most well known in the world. Do you know how to make a tick figure? “From Sticks to Form”, this class is for you. By the end of this course, you will learn to measure the human form from head to toe in a realistic simple way. All models are from magazines.
S3: Figures in motion, moving, running, and sitting. By simply knowing how to measure the human form with its simple stick drawing, you can create a realistic form that is more lifelike. Realistic, natural BELIEVABLE. All figures are from magazines.
S4: July’s four week course is focused on putting everything you learned in creating the complete figure and portrait.

The best of both worlds! Water-soluble colored pencils combine the precision and control of drawing with the fluid possibilities of paint. Explore the many ways these versatile pencils can be used wet or dry, alone or for mixed media. Great for art journals and plein air, for sketching or serious artwork, they even mix well with pen and ink and traditional watercolor. Some paper is provided; bring your own pencils or borrow class sets.

Have you always wanted to draw a face, but, shy away because it turns out looking like Godzilla? Never fear, this art class is for you! This class, a third in my beginner series, will highlight how to draw realistic faces. Students will learn how to draw the details of eyes, nose and mouths step-by-step. Students will learn a variety of techniques to produce a portrait from reference photographs. I think you will be amazed at what you and your pencil can do!
