This is a class for the young artist. The class is focusing on all aspects of art. We will train the eye how to see as it related to direction of line, curves, form, shape, contrast, etc. We will learn how to look at something and draw it exactly. All projects will be finished in pencil, color pencil, or watercolor. Once the basics are learned, we will focus on design and composition. Students are to bring pictures they want to draw. All art supplies for this class are provided.

The Wonderful World Of Scratchboard, Sheryl Unwin

Scratchboard is a fine art form that uses a surface covered with white clay and then a layer of black India ink. In class we will explore the different tools to remove the black ink to bring your image come to life. The student may choose to keep their boards black and white or proceed to colorize them. In class we will explore the different mediums used to colorize your scratchboards.

Fine line markers are not just for tight details they’re great for quick sketches. Let go of perfectionism and go with the flow of ink! Add color with a few colored pencils, watercolor pencils, pastels or paints for fresh and lively artwork or filling a journal. Forget erasing and fixing, just loosen up and have fun drawing! Each student gets a fine line marker. (Weather permitting, we’ll draw outside too.)

Let’s draw! The goal is to relax, learn, and enjoy. By understanding and combining simpler underlying forms of anatomy, you can grow and succeed in this challenging but rewarding pursuit. All can benefit from studying the human figure, from beginners to advanced students. Sessions will feature short and extended model poses. Instruction will be tailored to each student’s skill level. We will cover materials, various techniques, measuring, expression, and composition. Classes may include visual presentations and demonstrations. Class fee includes model fee.

Bring your own pencils; some sets will be available for use in class along with sample papers and other tools. For all levels – great for beginners, but even expert users will learn new tips for better results.

Underpainting with a single color in water-soluble oil paints makes a great base for color drawing. Quickly establish values and unify the color scheme. Arches oil paper works with both oil paint and colored pencils. Paint and paper provided, brushes and pencil sets available for use in class. Choice of subject with color reference. If you bring your own reference, be sure it has strong values and bring a black and white photocopy (8.5×11’).

The Human Figure from Head to Toe, Helen Solomon

In this comprehensive four-week, three-hour course, you will delve into the art of enhancing your artwork by skillfully incorporating figures into your compositions. You will gain insight into determining the angle and position from which the subject of the artwork is observed, exploring the artist’s decision-making process in presenting the perspective. Various perspectives such as front, side, three-quarters, profile, rear (from behind), close-up, far away, life-size, bird’s eye view, upward, downward, and sideways will be thoroughly examined. Additionally, you will explore different body positions including standing, sitting, lying down, bending, gesturing, moving, resting, and static. Also, we will discuss skin tones. All the visual references used in this course are derived from pictures provided by the instructor, not live models.
