Working With Glaze Chemicals, Ted Camp
Ted Camp A
Thursdays 1:00-4:00
This course explores the chemical constituents of glazes. Knowing what a chemical contributes to the glaze formula is critical in choosing chemicals that provide the surface or color a student is looking for. Another important area of concern in making functional glazes is that they be food-safe and durable. Students will receive a special computer glaze calculator, which will help them to see when a glaze is properly fluxed to produce a durable surface and will help them to know what it will look like before the glaze is made. Students will make their own glazes (for cone 6 electric or cone 10 reduction) and adjust them to produce desired results on test tiles. Time will be spent applying test glazes to test tiles, and not constructing work – no clay provided.

Ceramic Workshop
I-A
Tuesdays 1:00-4:00
This is class-led, hands-on, and open to anyone who can center and pull a cylinder. Each week one of the participants will present a demonstration, challenge, or problem to work on. This can be based on an area of your expertise, something that interests you in clay, or a new technique to try together. You can present a problem to work on, such as lids, feet, handles, height. The focus can be on soft work, leather hard, or bisque. Sandra Symens will kick off the first class. There’s a lot of expertise and experience between us so let’s share. Class includes 25# of clay with a bisque and glaze firing.

Image Transfer, Ted Camp
Ted Camp I-A
Thursdays 1:00-4:00
There are a number of ways to work with repeatable images on clay. The simplest would be to use commercial stencils, which is where the course will begin. Following that will be the use of commercial rice paper transfers. The student will then be able to explore the use of monoprint transfer from rice paper of their own designs to clay. Time permitting, there will be an opportunity to learn ceramic decal making. Small examples of material needed for these techniques will be provided with the opportunity (not required) for the student to purchase larger sized material for the execution of these techniques. Class fee includes 25 lbs. of clay, glazes, and all firing.
