In this class, participants will explore ways to move from realism to abstraction.  Through a series of exercises using drawing, painting and collage, participants will develop studies to use to create a finished piece. $45

Who doesn’t love a gorgeous golden sunset. We will be using vibrant colors and blending many different acrylic colors to make a memorable sunset with palm trees on a small canvas. We will be blending colors on the palette and canvas and applying layers of paint to give depth. Come join us! $45

Nights OutS4: 10/28/22 & 11/4/22 Ted Camp –Slab Construction for Raku 2 Part Class, 6-9
In the first class you will construct forms from slabs of clay, learning the basic forming techniques. The second class you will apply glazes and will then participate in Raku firing. $135

Just in time for spring we’ll be painting a beautiful pink water lily. You will learn how to create variegated washes for the petals and how to paint realistic looking water drops on the lily pads. We will also be making graphite paper for use in tracing your designs on paper. $55

Slab Construction, Ted Camp

Slab construction is the easiest and fastest form of hand building to learn while presenting the more advanced student with a variety of challenges. We’ll cover a variety of building and design techniques. Demonstrations will focus on the making of quality utilitarian or sculptural objects. Students will be introduced to numerous glazing techniques that allow them to fully explore colors and effects possible with mid-fire (cone 6 electric) and hi-fire (cone 10 reduction) glazes. Bring your own tools or purchase at the front desk. Class fee includes 25 lbs. of stoneware clay, in-studio glazing and firing.

Creating On The Wheel, Ted Camp

The basic steps to throwing will be the focus for beginners while more advanced students will be challenged by more complex forms and techniques for achieving greater scale or diversity of form. Demonstrations will repeatedly show the techniques, which will lead to the student’s success, through practice. Students will ways to apply glazes to their pieces and experience the differences between mid-fire (cone 6 electric) and hi-fire (gas fired cone 10 reduction) glazes. Bring your own tools or purchase a beginner’s kit at our front desk. Class fee includes 25 lbs of stoneware clay, in-studio glazing & firing.

Ceramic Workshop

This is class-led, hands-on, and open to anyone who can center and pull a cylinder. Each week one of the participants will present a demonstration, challenge, or problem to work on. This can be based on an area of your expertise, something that interests you in clay, or a new technique to try together. You can present a problem to work on, such as lids, feet, handles, height. The focus can be on soft work, leather hard, or bisque. Sandra Symens will kick off the first class. There’s a lot of expertise and experience between us so let’s share. Class includes 25# of clay with a bisque and glaze firing.

Raku-Smoke and Fire, Ted Camp

Students will produce work and apply special glazes to their bisque-fired work BEFORE class. During class, work will be fired quickly and then removed from the hot kiln while the glazes are still molten. Work will then be placed into smoking chambers where the glazes will develop a variety of surface & colored effects unique to raku while rapidly cooling You will be encouraged to try naked raku, obvara & horsehair techniques. Fee includes 25 lbs of clay, in-studio glazing & firing.

Simplified Acrylic Painting l, Helen Solomon

This class teaches the elements of art and the principals of design. Students will explore basic art media and techniques. In this course, I teach you the foundations of working with acrylic paint and why they are the simplest and most effective way for an absolute beginner to learn how to paint successfully. Acrylics can be used in thin layers like watercolors or in thicker, more opaque applications like oil paint. The course covers setup and materials, color mixing and pigment choice, brush-handling, and palette-knife techniques, as well as gels and mediums. You’ll complete a still-life, landscape, seascape Subject and reference are your choice.

The goal of this class is to introduce soft pastels and the many ways they can be used. Each student will develop their own style, no matter the subject, still life, landscape, seascape, figure or portrait. How to prep work surface and how to transfer art to sanded paper. For the first half hour of each class we will critique work created the week before. As a group we will discuss each others artwork. This is a great time to talk about you, the artist, and briefly discuss your next step.
