Juror Statement: It was a pleasure to jury an exhibition for ArtCenter Manatee. Making selections for an exhibition with so many outstanding entries, was not an easy task, nor one I took lightly. My decisions were informed by the ways the works speak to one another, and the ways in which so many artists eloquently meet the moment by responding to recent pivotal shifts fueled by social media, Black Lives Matter, the #metoo movement, COVID, and the devastating effects of climate change. I am also excited by the way much of the art cleverly responds to art historical conventions, finding new ways to reinvigorate and question the past. As an artist, educator, and juror, like you I am one set of eyes, and from my vantage point, I am excited and encouraged by the work and the conversations created through this dynamic collection of art.
