RAKU – Fire & Smoke, Ted Camp
Ted Camp, B-A
Thursdays 9:00-12:00
Using previously developed construction skills, students will produce either handbuilt or wheel thrown work and apply special glazes to their bisque-fired work PRIOR to each class. During class, those pieces will be fired quickly and students will then remove their work from the hot kiln and place their work into smoking chambers where the glazes will develop a serendipitous variety of surface and colored effects unique only to raku while rapidly cooling. In addition to regular raku glazing, students are encouraged to try naked raku, obvara, and horse-hair techniques as alternative choices to glazing for their surface patterns. Class fee includes 25 lbs. of clay, glazes and firing.

Creating On The Wheel, Ted Camp
Ted Camp, B-A
Wednesdays 9:00-12:00
The basic steps for throwing will be the focus for beginners, while more advanced students will be challenged by more complex forms and techniques, which will lead to all students achieving success through practice. Whether the focus is on the traditional drinking vessel or the more challenging lidded container, including the tea pot, numerous demonstrations will provide the way to success. Students will also explore the myriad ways to apply glazes to their pieces and experience the difference between mid-fire (cone 6 electric) and hi-fire (cone 10 reduction) glazes. Bring your own tools or purchase a beginner’s kit at the front desk. Class fee includes 25 lbs. of clay, firing, and in-studio glazing.

Extruder Clay Construction, Ted Camp
Ted Camp, B-A
Thursdays 1:00-4:00
The use of clay extrusions greatly speeds up the process of creating clay pieces. Using small hand extruders and/or larger wall-mounted extruders, students will construct forms in a variety of scale. Time saved from the construction process allows the student more time to consider aesthetic concerns and explore the clay medium creatively. Pieces may be built entirely from extrusions or combined with other traditional hand building (and even wheel throwing) techniques. Students may work alternatively between sculptural and utilitarian forms.
Class fee includes 25 lbs. of clay, glazes, and firing.
