Juror Statement: Kim Anderson
Go Wild exemplifies a wealth of talent and creativity showcased in this area. I am truly humbled and inspired by the volume and quality of artwork submitted. As I approached the jurying process I employed my experience and perspective as an artist, reflecting on the overarching tone of the exhibition as well as conversations established between various works submitted. I attempted to evoke balance in thematic directions, formal qualities and creative innovation. My selection of awards highlights what I determined to be the best of these qualities. As always, these decisions are not easy but were ultimately informed by the artist’s ability to successfully synthesize form and content along with a well-crafted presentation. Submitting work to an open call is courageous and a vital contribution towards a dynamic community, embodied here in the ambition and scope of this exhibition. I am honored to have been able to contribute as a creative collaborator in this process as I celebrate all of these artists and their ongoing artistic endeavors.

Kim Anderson is an artist and educator residing in Bradenton, FL and Berkeley, CA. She holds the position of Associate Professor of Art at New College of Florida where she has taught since 2004. She earned an MFA from the University of Florida and BFA from California College of Arts and Crafts. Her paintings contrast 19th century cinematic antecedents, vintage home movies, and the carnivalesque magic of stereoscopy against our present screen-based obsessions. Located the afterlife of thrift store novelties and vernacular photography, her paintings reimagine new fictions from found novelties, vintage photographs, and the traces of things left behind. Her work has been exhibited nationally in cities including New York, Brooklyn, Atlanta, Ventura, Cincinnati, Seattle, Portland, and Miami and featured in publications including New American Paintings, Studio Visit Magazine, Create! Magazine, and Manifest INPA and MEA.
