This class, designed for the intermediate/advanced clay student, will focus on decorative techniques, which contribute to the improved complexity of the design of the student’s pieces. The use of colored slip in the process of mishima and sgraffitto, using colored clay in the process called millefiore (Italian) or Neriage (Japanese), and techniques of applying glazes with spray guns will be employed on either wheel thrown or handbuilt clay objects, functional and/or sculptural. Use of low-fire lusters will also be introduced. Discussion will focus on improving the aesthetics and refinement of the student’s end product. Class fee includes 25 lbs. of clay, glazes, and all firing.
