Create Pastels Like A Master, Helen Solomon
Helen Solomon B-I
Fridays 1:00-3:00
Edgar Degas took his pastel work very seriously. Leonardo da Vinci used black and red chalk with yellow pastel highlights. The goal of this class is to introduce pastels and the many ways they can be used. Each student will develop their own style, no matter the subject, still life, landscape, seascape, figure or portrait. For the first half hour of each class we will critique work created the week before. As a group we will discuss each others artwork. This is a great time to talk about you, the artist, and briefly discuss your next step. This is also a great time to observe each other’s work and maybe even pick-up something new that a fellow student might have suggested. MASK REQUIRED-NO EXCEPTIONS

Color Theory for Color Harmony in Your Art, Helen Solomon
Helen Solomon B-A
Wednesday, Mar 17 10:00-1:30
Color Theory is a collection of guidelines on the use of color for artists and it can really help any creative person make intelligent decisions. The color wheel is designed so that virtually any colors you pick from it will look good together. Over the years, many variations of the basic design have been made, but the most common version is the 12-color wheel based on the RYB (RED, YELLOW, BLUE-VIOLET).
A century after Newton, Johann Wolfgang Goethe began studying the psychological effects of colors, identifying the fact that blue gives a feeling of coolness and yellow has a warming effect. Goethe created a color wheel showing the psychological effect of each color. He divided all the colors into two groups – the plus side (from red through orange to yellow) and the minus side (from green through violet to blue). Colors of the plus side produce excitement and cheerfulness. Colors of the minus side are associated with weakness and unsettled feelings.
