The Exhibiting Society of Artists (TESA) is a professional artists association located in the Tampa Bay area. TESA is a vibrant community of professional artists founded over 15 years ago. We are committed to promoting the arts, to professionalism and to the pursuit of artistic excellence. Many of our artists have been recognized nationally and are part of a varied exhibition agenda. Our first showing at ArtCenter Manatee promises to be fresh, new, and exciting, featuring a diverse collection of works. TESA maintains a web site where information about each artist can be viewed: http://arttesa.org/

The artists who submitted work for this exhibition demonstrated a great diversity of talent in a variety of media. It was good seeing such interesting approaches in pastel and watercolor. Photography entries were also strong. It was a challenge to narrow the field of recognition to only seven artists.
Capturing the complexity of moving water affected by tides, currents and wind is difficult. Realizing the split second nuances of water reflecting light and providing the understanding of it’s color and depth adds another challenge. Managing this successfully with an opaque medium is all the more an achievement. For these reasons the first prize was awarded to this work.
Watercolor is another difficult medium. Balancing the layers of washes and pigment while asserting the role of the paper in the process of creating an interesting composition with line and color identified another winner.
Being successful with night photography that includes land, water and objects necessitates particular talents for understanding light and atmospheric conditions among many other issues. The profound silence and tranquility of this work called for an award.
The works chosen for honorable mention each manifest an effort by each respective artist to push their limits in experimenting with process and their chosen materials.
I appreciate the opportunity to judge this exhibition.
