Using Collage Elements in Watermedia Painting Workshop with Sue Downes Allen

Sue Downes Allen B-I
Saturday 10:00-2:30

Students will prepare collage papers by painting and tearing shapes and color to enhance their representative but free flowing abstract paintings. We will pour, splatter and run acrylic or watercolor paint first and then carefully using collage to give the paintings an extra depth and texture. I think you will find any watermedia experience you have had will help you quickly master these techniques. Emphasis will be on design, composition, color and contrast. Sue will demonstrate each step in her process and help students solve problems. You’ll be making your own original design following a step by step demo. You may paint any subject you like, including abstract, but remember we will be working wet in wet and very loosely.

John provides painting subjects and does at least two demonstration paintings each day, then assists individual students with their work. He will explain all the essential materials and will discuss techniques and approaches to get maximum impact from a simple collection of tools and equipment.

Lovett 3John comes to ArtCenter Manatee all the way from Australia! He has been painting professionally for over 40 years. His work possesses an emotive power and vitality that is enhanced by his use of light, color and a strong sense of design.
