September 23, 24, 25 & 26 2019
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday
In this 2019 watercolor and mixed media art workshop with John Lovett, you’ll explore not only traditional watercolor techniques but also a combination of different methods and materials including ink, gesso, gouache, acrylic and charcoal to free up your work and squeeze more out of your subject. The goal is to explore ways to go beyond simply making a likeness of the subject. Your paintings will contrast areas of suggestion with areas of contrast and detail to make them more engaging and give them more impact. You’ll work hard, but the atmosphere will be casual and a lot of fun! John provides painting subjects and does at least two demonstration paintings each day, then assists individual students with their work. He will explain all the essential materials and will discuss techniques and approaches to get maximum impact from a simple collection of tools and equipment.
John comes to ArtCenter Manatee all the way from Australia! He has been painting professionally for over 40 years. His work possesses an emotive power and vitality that is enhanced by his use of light, color and a strong sense of design. John’s passion for his work and his open, very informative approach to teaching make him a much sought after instructor. John’s knowledge and enthusiasm will inspire you to produce better paintings in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere.
