Building A Better Abstract Structure

Carol Frye
Friday & Saturday  9:00-4:00

Behind every strong realistic painting exists an equally strong abstract structure. We will focus on breaking a painting down to its simplest forms. Using three basic elements & four simplified designs we will create art on canvas or paper using acrylic or watercolor. Simple mixed media materials will provide an easy way to experiment with these different elements. I will talk about things you can do, if you paint yourself into a corner, and do not know what to do next. Realist or abstract, you may complete your paintings in your media of choice, on your choice of surface. There will also be ideas to help you complete unsuccessful or unfinished paintings.

Perspective: The Skeleton Of A Painting

Joseph Melancon B-A
Wednesday  10:00-3:00

A basic understanding of perspective in painting and drawing is vital to every artist painting in a representational manner.  It is the art of drawing solid objects on a two-dimensional surface so as to give the correct impression of their height, width, depth and position in relation to each other when viewed from a particular point. Every object in a painting involves the use of perspective which means buildings, roads, trees, people, horizon, paths, etc. Use it correctly and your paintings will improve drastically. I will show you step by step the basic theory of perspective.  Remember, one must know the rules before one can break them. All levels of students welcome.
