Paintings that are 5 x 7 or 6 x 8 in size have different compositional, lighting, and detail needs. You will be doing 2 to 4 paintings during this session depending on your subject and painting pace. So bring your usual supplies, choose the small canvas size, small brushes and photo references to the 1st class.

Acrylics: The Dynamic Color Medium

Figure Painting

The class will cover the basics in understanding the art of painting the human figure. The students will learn the different steps with a simple approach in the discovery of the proportions of the figure. The class will engage in methods of painting skin tones with different sources of light and shadow. The basic concept of the class is a traditional and modern method in painting called “a la prima.” Materials list will be provided first day of class.

Learning From The Masters

Let the Masters inspire and expand your style. We’ll explore the works of Cezanne and Picasso and their methods to move into the world of abstraction and experimentation. Session One: Cezanne paved the way for 20th century art with his simplified shapes, use of color and broke the need for photographic exactness with his representational style. Session Two: Picasso style collage: Create a theme, employ contrast and movement. Let the shapes, distortions determine the focal point and interest on these Picasso styled collages.

Oils Or Pastels For Beginners
