A call for artists for ArtCenter Manatee Open Show 2008
August 25th - September 26th, 2008
Opening Reception Friday August 29th, 5-7 pm
ArtCenter Manatee will be receiving original artwork on August 23rd, 2008 for an open, juried, all media exhibition to be held August 25th - September 26th, 2008. 1st, 2nd & 3rd place prizes will be awarded in the amounts of $750, $500 & $250 respectively. A non-refundable jury fee of $15/ea. for ArtCenter Members or $25/ea. for non-members must accompany each piece. Opening reception will be held August 29th from 5-7pm. ArtCenter Manatee is open to the public and free of charge.
There is no limit to the number of pieces entered.
Receiving for the show will be on August 23rd from 10 am - 4 pm.

The difference between merely existing and truly expressing oneself is fairly simple - choice. Yes or No. With choice, the voice of an artist is heard and the vision of an individual comes to life through a living tool, a tracker. For a person without the luxury of communication most of us take for granted, the infinite and abundant choices of artistic expression become a vehicle to help them reach their full human potential.
A.R.T.’s system uses able-bodied people as “hands” for the handicapped who direct the painting by choosing color, technique and shape and who sometimes guide the brush with a light beam strapped to their heads.
 The technique of Tim Lefens and Artistic Realization Technologies provide a creative outlet to those without a means of expressing themselves. Not as art therapy but as Art.
The surrogate hands for these artists are provided by a staff person from Manasota ARC who serve as a tracker. Through the yes/no process the tracker is directed by the artists to the size of the canvas, the exact color of each brushstroke, the size and shape of the brush used, shapes based on finding points and even the mixture of colors.
Join ArtCenter Manatee, Manasota ARC and Artistic Realization Technologies and celebrate this creative process, July 10th - August 9th 2008.
The public is invited to attend a wine and cheese reception on Friday, July 11th, 5-7 pm where they will have the opportunity to meet the artists, discuss techniques and purchase artwork.

ArtCenter Manatee's Members.
These exhibits will be available for viewing free of charge during ArtCenter Manatee
gallery hours Monday, Friday & Saturday, 9am-5pm. Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday 9am-6pm.
Opening receptions are always free
& open to the public with wine and hors d’oeuvres.

"Thinking Out Loud 2"
an exhibit of paintings by Tyrell Waiters
June 2nd - August 2008
Opening reception June 6th, 5-7pm
 New exhibition at ArtCenter Manatee’s ComCenter Gallery located at 9040 Town Center Parkway in Lakewood Ranch.
Nineteen year-old Tyrell Waiters, one year out of high school, recently held his first and very successful one man show, Thinking Out Loud. He is back with additional exciting work, ranging from soft still-lifes to the bold and funky. Tyrell’s images are taken from the people and places around him, including the often trouble-ridden streets where he was raised.
Tyrell made a statement even as a younger artist, winning several awards and earning the attention of area professionals, including Miki Boni of the Village of the Art’s Kaos Gallery, who became a mentor to him. He continues to mature as an artist, garnering repeated requests for exhibitions and commissioned work.

ArtCenter Welcome Center
ArtCenter Manatee is happy to
announce the completion the new Welcome Center, renovation of the offices and the Artists'
Market in the lobby of the ArtCenter. The new Welcome Center was designed by Fawley Bryant
and the contractor was John Kiernan Construction.
Due to skyrocketing membership and growing staff,
the office was expanded to accommodate staff that has tripled in the last year. So make the
time to stop by and see for yourself the impressive transformation that has occurred this summer!

Artists' Market is getting bigger & better!
As the market has grown, we have found it necessary to establish new procedures.
Artists will be required to have their work labeled with inventory information & recorded on the
inventory sheet that is available at the ArtCenter & also will be on our website. Items submitted
for the Artists' Market will be juried before being put on display. Artists' will need to make an
appointment with Carla Nierman to submit their work in the Market. You can call Carla at 746-2862 to
set up an appointment.
