Convergence Exhibition
“Mad About Mad Weaving” and “Designing Weavers”

This exhibition is one of many in the Tampa Bay area which coincides with the 2008 Convergence conference in Tampa. This conference is for fiber artists throughout the country. The exhibit in ArtCenter Manatee’s galleries will feature the artwork of the Sally Shore from Locust Valley, New York and the Designing Weavers from California.

Art at the ComCenter Fine Art Gallery
Beginning in August, 2007, residents of eastern Manatee County and Lakewood Ranch will have the
opportunity to visit a new satellite gallery of ArtCenter Manatee.




Requirements for Exhibiting Artists
  • Originality:  Entries must be the original work of the artist and have been completed within the last three years, with the exception of sculpture which must have been completed within the past five years. Copies of paintings, other works of art or published photographs will not be accepted. All prints, lithographs, serigraphs, etchings, wood or linoleum blocks, etc., must be hand pulled and signed by the artist. Reproductions will not be accepted for exhibition. If plagiarism is discovered in art work submitted for an exhibition, the artist’s work will be removed from the show. If prize money is involved, the funds will be returned to ArtCenter Manatee. A strong letter of condemnation will be sent to the artist from the Board informing the artist that he/she is barred from entering any ArtCenter exhibitions for one year.


  • Work done under instruction or with the help of a critique in a classroom situation will not be accepted. The only exception is for a student show. Work previously shown at the ArtCenter will not be accepted a second time, with the exception of use in the Instructor’s Exhibition, Workshop Exhibition or Invitational Exhibition. Work shown in the Artists’ Market is not eligible for exhibition in the main galleries.


  • Prizes:  Prize winners must be present at the awards ceremony to receive the award unless they receive approval by the Executive Director to make alternative arrangements.


  • Size: Maximum size for paintings is 6’x 6’. Any entry weighing over 40 lbs must be handled by the exhibitor and prior arrangements for its placement made with the gallery presentation chairman.


  • Framing:  All pictures with frames under 22”x 28” may use glass. Pictures over this size must use Plexiglas. All pictures must be stoutly wired. Wire should be no lower than 6” from the top of the frame and must go straight across. Do not leave excess wire and taper the ends of rough wire. Screw eyes should be placed no lower than 6” from the top of the frame on each side of the work. Sawtooth hangers are not acceptable. If the hangers are adjustable, they must be adjusted to the correct height before the work is submitted. Adjustable clips with two sheets of glass or Plexiglas are not acceptable in place of a frame. Frames must be in good condition. Mats should be clean and well cut and the frame, glass or Plexiglas, should be clean. Any entry not meeting these specifications will not be juried.


  • Withdrawal:  No work accepted for an exhibition may be substituted, nor will any be permitted to be withdrawn during an exhibition, except in extenuating circumstances, and then only with the approval of the ArtCenter director.


  • Statement of Responsibility:  All entries are left at the owner’s risk. Although precautions are taken, ArtCenter Manatee is not responsible for damage or theft. Submission of work to any exhibition constitutes agreement on the part of the artist to provisions here set forth.
