One way to paint is to plan everything in advance, often starting with sketches, models or photographs, then following them fairly strictly. This works best if you have a specific idea of how you want the finished painting to look. Another way to paint is to decide it isn’t always necessary, desirable, or even possible to be in control of the painting process. Add an element to a canvas then let the painting evolve as you move around, introduce new elements, veil some, remove others and continue to respond until the painting is complete. We will work in the middle ground, utilizing both approaches finding that place somewhere in the middle.
